Football: Demetrius Ward, Liberty University
Demetrius Ward had three solo tackles and two assisted tackles in Liberty University's 41-31 loss to SUNY-Stony Brook on Saturday.
Ward is a 2009 graduate of Phoebus High School, where he was a three-year letterwinner on the football team leading the Phantoms to two state titles. As a senior (2008) Ward was ranked No. 69 in the Roanoke Times' listing of the top 100 players in the state. He was first-team all-district and all-region as Phoebus won the state title. He helped the Phantoms' defense record nine shutouts and hold opponents to 53 total points as they earned a No. 3 national ranking from RivalsHigh.com. As a junior (2007) Ward helped Phoebus advance to the state semifinals after winning the state title in 2006 during his sophomore campaign. He also played basketball in high school. The son of Derrick and JoAnn Ward, he is majoring in communications with a broadcasting focus. He is from Hampton.
