Girl Scouts enjoy day at NASA
The Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast hosted a day of engineering and exploration and fun in celebration of the Society of Women Engineers' Engineering Day for Girl Scouts.
According to a press release, more than 50 girls in grades four through six participated in the event co-sponsored by NASA Langley and the Society of Women Engineers at NASA Langley in Hampton.
Activities included Lego robotics, water filtration and flight simulation. Girl Scouts earned the Council Engineering Patch.
Girl Scouts have worked with NASA for 15 years to promote an interest in science and engineering among young women. About one third of Girl Scouts in the Hampton Roads area has attended a NASA event.
Jaiden Zayas, a Girl Scout Junior from Newport News who attended the event, said, "I'm learning new things and it's fun," she said. "It's an opportunity for girls to connect with each other and learn new skills."
