Hampton woman dies in automobile crash

The Hampton Police Fatal Accident Team is investigating a single-car crash that killed a Hampton woman on Saturday evening.

According to a news release, police responded to a call of a single-car crash at 7:57 p.m. on Saturday on Hampton Roads Center Parkway near Magruder Boulevard. First responders found the driver, Susan Watkins, 50, of Hampton, critically injured. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.

A report said that Watkins was driving west on Hampton Roads Center Parkway in a 1993 Ford Explorer when she lost control near the intersection of Magruder Boulevard. The vehicle overturned in the median, ejecting Watkins.

Alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash, police said.
