Pedestrian injured in crash with vehicle

An investigation is under way after a car struck a Hampton man as he stepped into Jefferson Avenue Tuesday.

Police say at 6:42 p.m. on Nov. 29, a 36-year-old Hampton man suffered multiple injuries when he stepped into oncoming traffic at Jefferson Avenue and Mercury Boulevard.

A red 4-door Kia, driven by a 58-year-old Newport News woman, struck the man as he stepped off the median into oncoming traffic traveling north on Jefferson Avenue, according to a Newport News Police Department news release.

After being hit by the Kia, the man collided with a Dodge minivan, which was stopped in the southbound left turn lane waiting to turn left onto eastbound Mercury Boulevard, according to the news release.

Medics reportedly transported the victim to the hospital, for possible life threatening injuries. The department's Crash Team continues to investigate.
