Hampton Police Division is hosting a benefit cookout for local hero
The Hampton Police Division is scheduled to host a benefit cookout for local hero Kelvin White.
White is a beer distributor who was shot in the leg during an attempted robbery in October 2011. He managed to stab one of the robbers, but was shot by a second.
White is able to walk with the aid of a cane, but is still in recovery.
The Exchange Club recently recognized White as its Citizen of the Year for his bravery.
The benefit cookout will take place on Friday, Feb. 17 in front of police headquarters at 40 Lincoln Street in Hampton. Food will be served by donation from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those wishing to make donations but can't attend the event may also make donations at Chartway Federal Credit Union branches, or by sending checks payable to Kelvin White with "Kelvin's Fund" in the memo.
For more information, contact the Police at 757-727-6111.
