Virginia DOT issues alert for motorists to expect snow, icy conditions in Hampton Roads
Snow has begun to fall across the Hampton Roads region, and motorists are warned to be on the lookout for icy conditions as temperatures drop, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
If driving is necessary, motorists should exercise caution, especially on bridges, overpasses and on- and off-ramps. VDOT crews have begun to salt and sand streets in the area, and will continue to do so throughout the evening.
A drop in temperatures overnight may result in the formation of icy patches of road throughout the region, especially on the peninsula.
Crews will continue to plow and apply abrasives into the morning. Though VDOT crews will work to keep roads clear and drivable, motorists should stay vigilant and avoid scattered snow and ice patches.
