Hampton Roads Academy track teams sweep April 11 tri-meet
Hampton Roads Academy's boys and girls track teams swept a tri-meet on Wednesday, April 11.
The boys scored 69 points to hold off second-place Nansemond-Suffolk Academy (57 points). Hampton Christian School finished third with 35 points.
On the girls side, Hampton Roads dominated with 93 points. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy took second with 27 points. Hampton Christian tallied 18 points.
Jonathan Underwood won two events for Hampton Roads. He placed first in the shot put with a throw of 34 feet, 11-inches and took first in the discus with a throw of 126 feet, 8 inches.
Brian Posadas finished first in the 110 hurdles with a time of 21.4 seconds and David Watlington placed first in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 6 inches.
Damian Girona finished on top in the 800 run, clocking in with a time of 2 minutes, 17 seconds.
Brianna Underwood had huge day for the girls team, winning three events for Hampton Roads.
Underwood placed first in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 8 inches and took first in the long jump with a jump of 13 feet, 6 1/2 inches. She won the triple jump (31 feet) as well.
Erica Smith was a double winner as she won the shot put and discus. She had a throw of 22 feet, 4 inches in the shot put and came through with a throw of 79 feet, 9 inches in the discus.
Taylor Wingo won the 3200 run, crossing the finish line in a time of 14:14, while the mile-relay team of Lucy Smith, Gabby Buffa, Leanna Yevak and Kelsey Galantich posted a time of 5:06 to place first.
