Hampton police seek 'serial robber' in 11 cases

Hampton police are asking for help from the public in identifying a suspect in nearly a dozen armed robberies since December, including three at the same discount store location.

According to the Hampton Police Division, 11 armed robberies – believed to have been committed by the same man – have occurred since Dec. 26. The first of the 11 armed robberies took place at Dollar General, 1937 E. Pembroke Ave., and was followed minutes later by another at Family Dollar, 2301 Kecoughtan Road.

The suspect is described as a black male, in his mid 20s to early 30s, about 5-foot-5 and has a dark complexion. In each incident, the suspect has disguised his face, wearing sunglasses and fake facial hair. 

The most recent incident was May 9 at Auto Zone, 2221 Kecoughtan Road. With the exception of one – the 5 a.m. robbery of Hardee's, 8104 Newmarket Drive on Dec. 31 – all of the incidents have occurred mid-evening. One location, Family Dollar at 2006 Nickerson Blvd., was targeted three times, robbed on Jan. 6, Feb. 5 and March 2.

Other robberies in the report released by police include:

- Jan. 6, 8:30 p.m.: Hardee's, 241 S. Mallory St.

- Jan. 21, 7:45 p.m.:  Advance Auto, 2201 Andrews Blvd.

- April 6, 9:10 p.m.: Advance Auto, 817 LaSalle Ave.

- April 29, 9:11 p.m.:  Long John Silver's, 904 Big Bethel Road.

According to the report, Newport News police are investigating similar cases that they believe may also be the work of the same suspect.
