Second suspect accused of abduction and death of elderly Hampton man
A man charged in connection with the abduction and death of an elderly Hampton man in March was extradited from Georgia last week to face those charges.
According to Hampton police, Darren Maurice Johnson, 45, of the 400 block of Dare Avenue in Hampton, who was charged in March with murder, abduction and carjacking, was in their custody on May 17. Johnson was being held at the Hampton City Jail.
Johnson and Wanda Faye Dobbins, 42, of the first block of W. Kelly Avenue in Hampton, are both charged in the abduction and death of Tommy Arland Alley, 73. According to a police report, Alley's body was found on March 7 inside in a vacant home in the first block of Eastmoreland Drive. Alley, who had been missing since Feb. 21, had been asphyxiated. Dobbins was arrested within days of Alley's body being discovered.
Johnson and Dobbins were initially suspects in a Feb. 19 theft at the Home Depot, 1413 N. Armistead Ave. Surveillance video showed the pair driving away in Alley's truck, police said.
