Hampton Police investigate June 28 fraud incident
Hampton Police are currently investigating an incident of fraud which occurred June 28 at Wal-Mart, according to a police report.
The fraud occurred at 11:45 a.m. when a 65-year-old woman was approached by two suspects claiming to be from Africa on a mission trip while she was shopping, according to the report. The two suspects claimed to be raising money for their church. The suspects convinced the victim to drive them to her local bank where she withdrew an undisclosed amount of currency.
When the victim and suspects returned to her vehicle, the suspects asked to see the money. The suspects placed the currency in a bank bag and returned it to the victim. The suspects then left. The victim later realized the suspects replaced the currency with fake currency.
The suspects were described as black males in their fifties and dressed in business attire. The men had foreign accents. The two were seen exiting a newer model four door vehicle. The vehicle is described as being silver or light blue in color.
