Hampton police identify suspect in July 10 shooting

The Hampton Police Division has identified Adrian Van Tilson of Hampton as the man accused of shooting a 38-year-old Hampton man the evening of Tuesday, July 10.

Tilson, who is 37 and lives on Shelton Road, has warrants charging him with a single count each of maiming, using a firearm during the commission of a felony and possessing a firearm while a convicted felon.

At 10:49 p.m. Tuesday, the Hampton Police Division received an e911 call regarding shots fired in the 500 block of Shelton Road. The complaint was updated to a shooting as officers went to the scene. When officers arrived they found a man suffering from a single gunshot wound to the upper torso, according to a police report.

The man was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and remains hospitalized.

Police did not provide a description of Tilson.
