Hampton Clean City Commission to host Schoolyard Habitat Workshop
Hampton area teachers can learn how to establish a wildlife habitat on school property by attending a workshop in August offered through the Hampton Clean City Commission.
The Schoolyard Habitat Workshop will take place Friday, August 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Hampton Clean City Commission Office, located at 1296 Thomas St. Teachers will learn the basic design elements and techniques to create a habitat to function as an outdoor classroom.
The course will give teachers ideas on how to connect school subjects with outdoor field investigations. Topics included in the workshop are hands-on activities to do with students, habitat and maintenance considerations, a schoolyard mapping exercise and community resources that may be available.
Participants will receive a Homes for Wildlife Planning Guide and a 20/20 Projects and Activities guide.
The workshop will be taught by Habitat Facilitators and Master Naturalists of the Peninsula Chapter Susan Walton and Sandy Graham.
