Chamber of commerce seeks sponsors for Youth Leadership Alliance

Sponsors are needed for the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce's Youth Leadership Alliance program, which will be held Monday-Friday, Aug. 13-17.

There are three levels of sponsorship, the highest of which is $500. For that sponsorship, individuals and companies can adopt a team for five days, and sponsors will be mentor their teams through theoretical business situations using the sponsor's company's expertise or core values. On the fifth day, the teams will present their business proposal using the concepts learned throughout the program.

Companies and individuals can also be a Building the Foundation sponsor for $250 or Setting the Pace sponsor for $175.

The program is for high school students with leadership skills who want to gain a greater understanding of problems and how to solve them through interaction with the community and their peers; identify opportunities on the peninsula for family and career development; get the opportunity to volunteer outside of the school; and hone critical thinking, communication and decision-making skills.

Cox Communications Hampton Roads LLC, Old Point Financial Corp., BOSH Global Services, Newport News Shipbuilding-Division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, and the city of Newport News have already signed up as sponsors.

The locations of the event vary depending on the activities.
